Combined Honours: For each subject, pre-final year contributes up to 30% towards your final degree classification. For some subjects, the placement year will constitute part of this element, 30-50% of your overall assessment will be by continuous assessment, depending on your particular subjects. In Biology the 1st year is broadly based, the 2nd and 3rd years include more advanced modules, and the final year incorporates an individual dissertation. An optional year's placement is available. Graduates are eligible for Graduate Membership of the Institute of Biology (GIBiol). Mathematics provides a blend of basic mathematical techniques, a rigorous examination of their validity, the development of underlying structures common to a number of concepts, and the application of mathematics to solving complex problems that arise in the real world. It currently receives professional recognition by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
