During this course students will study the history of art and design. It covers the study of painting, sculpture, architecture and design during various periods from Greek art to the present day. It will develop skills in visual analysis and art criticism and will come to understand how historical and cultural issues have influenced some of the major movements in western art. Much can be learned about the development of society and historical events through the study of works of art. This subject is invaluable for those students who have an interest in society and culture and wish to further their understanding through the study of visual imagery. Art students also find this course an invaluable means of developing a deeper understanding of their own creative ideas. Study will take the form of: discussions of images and videos, seeing works of art at first hand, presentations. It will also carry out personal research on an area of their own choice. This subject is particularly useful for students hoping to study architecture, history, archaeology, religion, philosophy, film, art or design degrees.

King Edward Sixth College is an equal opportunities college. The college provides various facilities and these include the sports hall, the suite of art and design studios, a new multimedia, interactive language laboratory and specialist laboratory facilities. Recent developments have included the relocation of the careers library, the enlargement of the main library and an extension to an existing block to provide modern well equipped classrooms and another IT suite. All areas of the college used by students have disabled access. The student social area in college is where students can relax, listen to music and buy a variety of food options. The college is within walking distance of all the town centre facilities of Stourbridge. The bus service is easily accessible.
