Course info
The course is broadly chronological and covers the history of the region from the 11th century to the end of the 20th. It does not aim for a complete century-by-century coverage but rather will allow students to acquire an indepth knowledge of a series of major themes, such as: Town and country in the West Midlands c.1050-1300, Reformation, social change and the Civil War: the West Midlands in the 16th and 17th centuries Enlightenment, reform and industry: theWest Midlands in the 18th and 19th centuries Turmoil and change: economy, society and politics in the West Midlands in the 20th century. Students will also have the opportunity to research a topic of their own choice under the supervision of one of the members of the Centre for Birmingham and West Midlands History, using one of the many archival resources available in the region. The programme will provide students with the in-depth training necessary to understand and use these sources.

How much will it cost?
Fees for 2008/09: taught full-time: £4200; part-time: £2100; research full-time £3240-£3350; part-time: from £1620. Students should contact the Financial Support Office for further details, regarding fees or bursaries.

Entry Requirements
Normally, a first or second class honours degree in a relevant or cognate discipline; in addition to IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in any band and TOEFL score of 600/250 plus TWE 4.0.
